Summer Reads

Hello everyone!

We had a great time discussing Monuments Men this past Sunday! Thank you to Barbara for our more "last minute" book pick.  We also discovered the library book kits are very helpful and we may look into using them more in the future.

We decided to keep the reading light for the rest of the summer!  For July we will be reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows.  Many of us have already read this book and loved it!  We hope you will enjoy it too. The library should have plenty of copies or there are usually copies at Goodwill or Value Village. We'll be meeting at Stacy's home on Sunday, July 27th at 8:00 pm.

Our August read will be The All-Girls Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg. Joyce will be hosting and we will let you know about a meeting date.

Please pass on the book picks and hopefully we'll get a good group together for the summer!

MARCH!

Hey all, time for our March meeting!

Karyn has graciously offered to host the discussion of The Fault in Our Stars by John Green on Sunday, March 30th at 7:30 pm. We'll meet at her house- 13026 Ascension St, Tigard.

At this meeting, PLEASE send your 3 picks for our next book list- we will gather your choices and try to have the next year's list picked out soon. If you can't make it, please text or email Stacy, Karyn, or me (Kirsten) your choices before the next meeting. Thanks!

Happy Reading!

In the comments, let's do a roll call when you know if you're attending- give Karyn some heads up. Thanks!

Unbroken movie!!!

Hey all, I just saw that Angelina Jokie is directing "Unbroken" (Laura Hillenbrand) and it's set to release 12/25/14. That's a long wait but I'm so excited that they are making this great story into a movie!!

December/ January

Hey all-
First of all, I hope that everyone that was able to attend the last book club enjoyed it- thanks again to Tracy for hosting!

Secondly, a reminder and a plea- for Dec/Jan, we are combining the months (so that people will actually have the time to read and attend). We are reading Running the Rift, but we need a host for our next meeting! If you're interested, feel free to comment, text me, or email me at kirstendana@gmail.com. Somebody pleasepleaseplease volunteer!

Thirdly, our pick in February is The Forgotten Garden, and it's on the longer side- if you've got downtime during the holidays (ha!), it might be a good idea to get started on this before February.

Also, you guys made it weird. Hurry up- someone email me a photo and their favorites list so I can highlight another reader. It may also be a good source of ideas for Christmas gifts for someone you know!

Lastly, let's make January book-club-outreach Month. I know that things get busy and I'm also guilty of not being there for every meeting, but it would also be nice to get some new people in on the discussions. We should all make a point of inviting someone new!

SO- have a Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and get reading!
